Arthur Masao “Mabo” Weatherwax, owner of Broadway Estate Jewelry in downtown Columbus, died on May 26. He was 59 years old.
The real estate jewelry store at 1044 Broadway announced his death on its Facebook page. The store is closed “until further notice,” according to an article.
“You are welcome to leave your condolences at this time in the store entrance for Mabo and Bryce. Details of the service will be announced once confirmed,” the publication said.
No decision has been made on whether to reopen the store, according to a Facebook comment from the company. Any future announcements will be made on the store page.
Fans and patrons of the boutique offered condolences and shared memorabilia from their visits to Broadway Estate Jewelry.
“So heartbreaking,” one customer said in a Facebook comment. “Every year, sometimes twice a year, I would go to Columbus and visit this unique jewelry store. Almost every time I have been there he has encouraged me to try on all the beautiful jewelry I could ever afford. He made an impact on all of his clients and I will miss seeing him.
All customers who have items in the store on layaway or on consignment will be contacted “in the near future” to collect the items, the store said.
