Have you ever wondered what to do with old earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets that you no longer wear? Until December 21, you can donate these pieces in hopes of spawning new wearable art pieces.
Ethical Metalsmiths, a group of caring buyers, jewelers, designers and suppliers, offers its Radical Jewelry Makeover program in South Florida. The organization has partnered with Lighthouse ArtCenter, Armory Art Center and Resource Depot to invite residents to donate their unwanted jewelry which will then be reused into new pieces.
Ethical Metalsmiths aims to encourage social change that values jewelry made from ethically sourced materials. Currently, a large part of the raw materials used to make jewelry come from the poorest countries in the world and have a considerable cost to the environment. By prioritizing remade jewelry, Ethical Metalsmiths and its Radical Jewelry Makeover program seek to revolutionize the way designers and consumers view jewelry.
You can drop off your donations until December 21 at the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, the Resource Depot in West Palm Beach, and the Jewelry Design Workshop in North Miami. Students and jewelry professionals in the region will then transform the materials into new creations, which will be on display at the Lighthouse ArtCenter from March 19 to April 24. Donors will receive discount coupons to use towards purchasing a new coin.
