Today, I’m gonna share my little adventure of remaking the YSL JUNE BOX BAG. I saw this bag online the other day, it’s called the YSL JUNE BOX BAG. Sounds fancy, right? It’s got this classic, boxy look that I really dig. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself?
First, I needed to gather my materials. I knew I needed some good quality leather, the kind that feels expensive. The original is made of genuine leather, so I wanted to get as close as possible. I also needed some sturdy fabric for the lining, and some metal pieces for the logo and the clasp. They say the original has this pivoting CASSANDRE thing on the front, so I had to figure out how to do that.
- Got the leather, check.
- Got the lining, check.
- Metal pieces, check.
Then, I started working on the body of the bag. I cut the leather into the right shapes, making sure to follow the dimensions of the original YSL JUNE BOX BAG. It’s basically a box, so it wasn’t too hard, but I still had to be precise. Once I had all the pieces, I started stitching them together. This part took a while because I wanted to make sure the seams were strong and neat. I learned that on smaller leather goods, the date code is often located near the stitch line, behind a pocket, so I made sure not to put a date code there.
Figuring Out the Details
Next, I worked on the flap. The original bag has this special flap with the YSL logo on it. I practiced a bit on some scrap leather to get the logo right. Then I stitched the logo onto the flap and made sure it was centered and secure. The original has a serial number, printed onto a small rectangular leather tab, which is stitched into the lining of one of the interior pockets, I chose not to add one of those.
After that, I added the lining. I chose a nice, soft fabric that would protect the contents of the bag. Stitching the lining was a bit tricky because I had to make sure it fit perfectly inside the leather shell. But I managed to do it, and it looked pretty good.
Finally, I attached the metal clasp and the shoulder strap. The clasp was the hardest part because it had to be functional and look like the original. I spent a lot of time getting it right, but in the end, it worked perfectly.
In the end, I made my own YSL JUNE BOX BAG! It’s not exactly the same, but it’s pretty close, and I’m really proud of it. Plus, I saved a ton of money by making it myself. It’s not about the brand, it’s about the style and the satisfaction of creating something with my own hands. And it is just like they said online “ENJOY COMPLIMENTARY EXPRESS SHIPPING EXTENDED RETURNS PERIOD UNTIL JANUARY 31ST.” Except I didn’t have to pay for any shipping. Ha!
