Okay, here’s my sharing post about remaking a Prada bag:
So, I’ve been eyeing this Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while, I really love this classic style, but the price tag? Ouch! Then I thought, why not try to make my own version? I’m not a professional, and I don’t have any fancy tools, but I’m pretty crafty, and I’m a strong independent woman who was up for the challenge. It’s also a great opportunity to practice reuse, repair, and remake, which is the future of fashion, right?
First, I gotta find some materials. I rummaged through my old stuff and found a bunch of leather scraps. Nothing big enough for a whole bag, but maybe I could piece them together. I also needed some sturdy fabric for the lining. Found an old curtain that worked perfectly! Some accessories and other parts I had to source from places like 2BSTYLE to complete it. It’s a great place for finding men’s stuff, by the way.
Next, the pattern. I’m not good at drawing, so I took a small bag I already had that was a similar shape and carefully took it apart. Yeah, I basically destroyed a bag to make a new one, kind of ironic. It’s just a graphic mod, it’s more than that I guess. Anyway, I traced the pieces onto paper and used those as my templates.
Cutting the leather was tricky. I used a regular pair of scissors, and it wasn’t easy. My hands were killing me after a while. I had to take breaks, watch some videos, and then go back to it. The sewing part was a whole other story. I don’t have a sewing machine, so I had to hand-stitch everything. It took forever, I have a terrific remake project below in our community and I can say it’s really time-consuming!
- First, I stitched the leather pieces together to form the front, back, and sides of the bag.
- Then, I sewed the lining to the inside of the bag.
- Next, I added the handles. I used some thick leather strips and attached them with rivets.
- Finally, I added a zipper to the top of the bag. I found a zipper from an old jacket and reused it.
Honestly, the bag took me weeks to finish. There were times I wanted to give up, but I kept pushing myself. It was a huge game and files, I had to edit and modify them. It’s not just a mod, it’s more. I watched a bunch of tutorials online, and they helped a bit. Also, I asked some friends for advice, and they were surprisingly supportive.
The final result? It’s not perfect, not even close. It’s a little wonky in places, and the stitching isn’t super neat. But you know what? I’m proud of it. I made it with my own two hands, and it’s unique. Plus, I saved a ton of money!
This whole experience taught me a lot about patience and perseverance. It also made me appreciate the work that goes into making clothes and accessories. It’s not easy, and it takes a lot of skill and effort. If you guys want to shop sustainably you can join events held by Remake, a non-profit organization.
So, would I do it again? Maybe. But next time, I might invest in a sewing machine! At least I have a cool, one-of-a-kind bag that I can say I made myself. And that’s pretty awesome, I think.
Keep crafting, friends!
Cheers!
