Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout this here CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” thing. Sounds fancy, huh? I don’t know much ’bout fancy, but I know a thing or two ’bout watches. My old man, bless his soul, he had a pocket watch. Kept it on a chain. This here OMEGA thing, it goes on your wrist, I reckon. And it’s all about the moon.
They say this watch, it’s big. Like, 44.25 mm. I don’t know what a millimeter is, but it sounds big. And this OMEGA Speedmaster, they say it’s got somethin’ to do with the moon. They got this black part inside, and they say it’s like the moon. Black like the night sky out here when there ain’t no clouds.
And get this, there was this Apollo 8 thing, way back in 1968, December 21st. Those fellas in that rocket, they was the first ones to see the other side of the moon. The dark side of the moon, they call it. Sounds spooky, don’t it? Like somethin’ out of one of them old movies. But this here watch, it’s to remember that. ‘Cause them boys went ’round the moon. First time anybody done that.
Now, I heard someone say this is some kinda update. Like they had one of these watches before, and now they got a new one. Like gettin’ a new dress, I guess. But this one, it’s special. They say it’s got some fancy stuff inside. OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869. I don’t know what any of that means, but it sure sounds expensive. Just like them fancy folks with their new words, this luxury Swiss watch.
And on the back, they got writin’. Says “APOLLO 8”. So you don’t forget, I reckon. Just like those young folk who put the pictures on their arms, these are the engravings on the caseback. Reminds me of when we used to carve our names on the old oak tree down by the creek.
They been makin’ these Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon watches since way back in 2013, I heard. That’s a long time. Longer than some of these young’uns been alive, that’s for sure. Ten years is a long time. This black ceramic is the material of this watch, just like the flowerpot my daughter got me.
This one here, it’s got a black strap. Goes on your wrist, like I said. And I heard ’em talkin’ ’bout the moon on this watch. They got a picture of it, they say. And the dark side too. Must be somethin’ to see. And there’s this little hand, they call it a small seconds hand, that’s spinnin’ ’round. Keeps track of the seconds, I suppose. Like the days passin’ by, one after another.
Here’s some things I heard about this watch:

- They say this Speedmaster was on the moon. That is crazy!
I don’t know if I’d ever wear one of these things. I am not an astronaut. But if you are going to space, maybe you need one. And I guess if you like the moon, or rockets, or just fancy things, maybe you’d like this watch. It is a trusty companion if you are an astronaut, I guess. My old man, he just needed his pocket watch to know when to come in for supper.
I reckon these things are probably expensive. These luxury Swiss watch are not cheap. But I heard someone say if you can get your hands on one, you should. I think these are worth buying. ‘Cause they’re special, I guess. Like that old quilt my mama made. Took her a long time to make that. This watch, it probably takes a long time to make too. Lots of little pieces, I bet. Like all them squares in that quilt.
