This Yves Saint Laurent, you say? YSL? What the hell is that? Sounds fancy. I heard the neighbor’s daughter, she’s always goin’ on about them fancy bags, talkin’ about this Manhattan bag thing. Says it’s real good, real fancy. Cost more than my old cow, Betsy, I bet.
I seen her with one of them bags once. Looked all shiny and new. She was struttin’ around like she owned the whole darn town. Told me it was a YSL Manhattan bag. Said it was “chic.” I don’t know about all that, but it did look sturdy. Like it could hold a good amount of taters, maybe. She said somethin’ about it bein’ structured and from Yves Saint Laurent, whoever that is.
I remember the first time I saw the neighbor’s girl with it, she was heading to her fancy city job, I guess. She said, “this YSL Manhattan shoulder bag, it’s expensive, but it’s the best!” She’s always saying that about something.
Now, I ain’t one for fancy things, but I gotta admit, that bag, it did catch my eye. If you’re gonna spend that kinda money, might as well get somethin’ that lasts. And that bag, it looked like it could last longer than me, that’s for sure! If I was gonna buy one of these bags, I’d wanna make sure it was a good one, you know? I heard that neighbor girl talkin’ about buyin’ used ones. Second-hand, she called it. Said somethin’ about “Vestiaire Collective”. Sounds French.
She said you can buy and sell them there. Maybe I’ll take a look. Save some money, maybe. ‘Cause I sure ain’t payin’ full price for no bag. She mentioned somethin’ about sizes, too. Said hers was a YSL Small Manhattan Bag. Said it was 24cm by 17.5cm by 6cm. I don’t know what them “cm” things are, I just know it was big enough to fit her lunch. And her phone. And probably a whole lot of other stuff she carries around.
She went on and on about how this YSL Manhattan bag was so great for a busy gal, carryin’ stuff all day and night. Said it had “minimal detailing”. I guess that means it ain’t got no frilly stuff on it. Plain and simple. That I can understand. And she said something about it bein’ made of “Box Saint Laurent Leather”. I don’t know what that is. Sounds fancy.
- Gotta be strong leather, though.

- She said it can be carried on the shoulder or with the top handle.

My neighbor, she said she wished YSL made more bags without them big letters on ’em. Said she liked the “sharp aesthetics”. I think that means she likes how it looks, all neat and tidy. Now she did show me another bag one time that she said was “like” the Manhattan bag but cheaper. Can’t remember what she called it. I don’t remember all those fancy names.
She said she’s seen reviews, whatever those are, about the YSL Small Manhattan Bag. Said people were comparin’ it to other bags. She showed me pictures on her phone. They all looked kinda the same to me. A bag’s a bag, right? Well, maybe not. I guess these fancy bags, they’re different. Gotta make sure it ain’t all scratched up, I guess. She was sayin’ somethin’ about the “condition” of the bag. Said if it’s all beat up, it ain’t worth as much.
She said these Saint Laurent bags, they’re “timeless”. I guess that means they don’t go outta style. Like my old overalls. They’re always good. She said people call it YSL, even though the name is different now. Confusin’, I know. She said this Manhattan bag came out in 2019. Not that long ago, really.
If you are thinkin’ about gettin’ one of these YSL Manhattan bags, you better do your research. That is what the neighbor’s girl said, anyway. Make sure you know what you’re gettin’ into. It’s a lot of money for a bag. But if it’s what you want, and it makes you happy, well, then I guess that’s all that matters. Just make sure you take good care of it. Like you would anything that is important to ya. Make sure you are getting your money’s worth.
